Geoscience BC Seeks Oil and Gas Project Manager

July 7, 2008- Geoscience BC is looking for a senior oil and gas geoscientist to develop and manage our frontier oil and gas geoscience projects in Northeast BC.

Geoscience BC is an industry-led, not-for-profit geoscience agency. Funded by a grant from the Provincial government, Geoscience BC's mandate is to attract new mineral and oil & gas investment to British Columbia through provision of applied geoscience information.

Geoscience BC was originally funded in April 2005 with a grant of $20 million for minerals geoscience, and $5 Million for oil and gas geoscience in BC's interior basins. In spring of 2008, the BC government announced an additional $5.7 million grant to Geoscience BC for frontier oil and gas geoscience, with a focus on NE BC and the Horn River Basin, and an additional $6 million for mineral geoscience in the Mountain Pine Beetle-affected areas of BC. Geoscience BC also leverages additional funding support for its initiatives from other funding sources and through partnerships.

We are looking for an individual with extensive experience in frontier oil and gas geoscience and regional oil and gas exploration, who can provide leadership in the design and delivery of a regional, multi-disciplinary, multi-partnered geoscience program to advance our understanding of northeast BC oil and gas potential. The initial focus of the NE BC program will be on the Horn River Basin shales and their gas potential. Development of this program will require extensive consultation with industry.

Reporting to the President and CEO in Vancouver, the base of operations for this position is negotiable. Geoscience BC offers competitive compensation, and a generous benefits package for staff.

This position provides a rare opportunity to work with a unique, well-funded, geoscience organization whose mandate is to attract exploration investment to British Columbia through collection, interpretation and marketing of industry-focused geoscience information.
