Advancing BC's Hydrogen Sector and Reducing Emissions Via Geological Carbon Storage Opportunities
Vancouver, BC – September 19, 2023 – Join us to learn about recent and upcoming public geoscience research to advance BC's hydrogen sector and reduce emissions via geological carbon storage opportunities, and about the BC Energy Regulator’s approach to supporting BC’s low carbon economy through carbon capture use and storage (CCUS). The webinar will be hosted on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 10 am (Pacific) by the Canadian Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA). It will feature talks from the BC Energy Regulator, Geoscience BC and the City of Fort St. John.

Presented by: Gavin Dirom & Randy Hughes, Geoscience BC
An overview of current and future Geoscience BC geological carbon capture and storage (CCS) research projects producing public data and reports to inform decisions relating to hydrogen production developments and emission reductions.
Geoscience BC will also provide details on how it is leveraging funding, working with communities and Indigenous groups to ensure opportunities for involvement early in the CCS research and project development phase.

Panelist 3: The BC Energy Regulator’s Approach to Supporting BC’s Low Carbon Economy through Carbon Capture Use and Storage (CCUS)
Presented by: Ken Howes, BC Energy Regulator
Supporting low-carbon innovation includes responsible storage and re-use of carbon dioxide emissions, which in turn, requires appropriate regulation. This presentation describes how the BC Energy Regulator has the technical expertise, industry knowledge, and regulatory oversight to support energy transition, including the regulation of carbon capture and storage.
