Volunteering Opportunity: Geoscience BC Minerals Technical Advisory Committee
Vancouver, BC – July 5, 2022 – Geoscience BC is seeking up to four volunteers to join our Minerals Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), a group of experts that advises on our independent, relevant and public minerals related earth science research in British Columbia.
Geoscience BC’s TACs are an essential part of our collaborative and innovative organization. The TACs review and recommend proposals for Board approval, and their expertise is vital to the success of our research.
The Minerals TAC is looking to bolster technical skills in the specific areas of:
- Water, as it relates to mineral exploration and mining;
- Minerals and metals on Canada’s critical minerals list (particularly expertise outside of copper; https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/our-natural-resources/minerals-mining/critical-minerals/23414);
- Geophysics for mineral exploration;
- Big data / Artificial Intelligence (AI) in mineral exploration; and
- Process engineering, including metallurgy.
New Minerals TAC members will be part of our valuable network of expert volunteers. Current members are listed on the Geoscience BC website: https://www.geosciencebc.com/about-us/technical-advisory-committees/.
We encourage members from underrepresented groups to apply. Minerals TAC members are asked to attend approximately four meetings per year, requiring around one hour of preparation. They may also be asked to provide feedback between meetings. TAC members are required to sign Geoscience BC’s Code of Conduct and Ethics, and Conflict of Interest Guidelines. Each TAC member is offered a complimentary Geoscience BC Individual membership.
TAC membership applications will be reviewed by a working group of TAC members and Geoscience BC staff, with final recommendations made by the TAC Chair and Geoscience BC President & CEO. TAC membership is approved by the Geoscience BC Board of Directors.
How to Apply
To apply to join the Minerals TAC please send a copy of your resumé and a letter explaining why you would like to join the Minerals TAC, including what you would consider to be the top three geoscience priorities that Geoscience BC could look to address in the next three years, to info@geosciencebc.com. Questions can be sent to the same email address. Applications close at 5:00 PM Pacific on Friday August 5, 2022.
