2019-018

This project was a first step in bringing together Indigenous and settler scientific data relating to water in NEBC. Indigenous representatives from McLeod Lake Indian Band and Halfway River First Nation shared culturally-based indicators that may aid research into changes related to water quantity and quality.

2019-023

This project installed four co-located climate stations and four groundwater monitoring wells at selected sites in NEBC. It included sampling for surface water and groundwater quality and provided training for First Nations personnel on water data collection, sampling and station maintenance.

2018-056

This project added to publicly accessible geophysical data in an area known as the Golden Triangle in British Columbia’s Northwest Region by acquiring and publishing industry data that was previously private. Existing public data sources have also been listed to create a comprehensive compilation for Golden Triangle geophysical data.

2018-034

This project trialled the Roben Jig (also known as Boner Jig) water-based process for washing metallurgical coal samples prior to coke quality assessment in a bulk-sized sample (340 kg). Information about two previous phases of this project can be found here (Geoscience BC project 2016-067) and here (Geoscience BC project 2017-013). This phase of the […]

2018-026

Below BC has created a virtual museum of rock, mineral and fossil samples from sites and collections across British Columbia. The online resource includes virtual 360-degree field trips at key locations across BC and is accessible to everyone for educational, research and general interest purposes. Visit Below BC home page

2018-031

This project developed a new analytical method to analyze for the halogen elements (fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine) and was used with spruce tree top samples collected during Geoscience BC’s 2015 TREK regional biogeochemical survey over a 1,000 km2 area approximately 120 km southwest of Vanderhoof. More information about the TREK project can be found […]

2018-011

This project has generated new information about rock types and ages in the east half of the Penticton Map Sheet (NTS 082E) in the Kootenay Boundary area of British Columbia’s South Central Region. This area has a rich history of mining for gold, lead, silver and critical minerals and metals such as molybdenum and zinc. […]

2018-004

This modern regional assessment of the geothermally prospective Garibaldi Volcanic Belt builds on work that started in the mid 1970s. The project brings updated geophysical and geological techniques and ideas to provide a modernized assessment of the geothermal potential of the region.

2018-055

This project will generate valuable new earth science information for an area in northern Vancouver Island, including an airborne geophysical survey and updated geological maps, to examine the mineral potential.

2018-016

This research project has generated a series of predictive maps based on probability estimates for various mineral deposit types in BC’s South Central Region. The research is based on combining existing stream sediment geochemical analyses and various classes of mineral deposit types from the BC MINFILE database.
