Geoscience BC Scholarship Program 2023: Applications Open; Sponsorship Opportunities Available

Vancouver, BC – April 19, 2023 – Applications for Geoscience BC’s 2023 Scholarship Program are now open, with sponsorship opportunities also available.

The Geoscience BC Scholarship Program awards $5,000 scholarships to up to ten students who have registered and started in a MSc or PhD program in earth science, geoscience or applied geoscience and are working on British Columbia-focussed geoscience research projects that advance knowledge, inform responsible development, encourage investment or stimulate innovation. This can include studies relating to mineral deposits, mining, natural gas, geothermal energy, water and carbon capture and storage.

Geoscience BC has invested $720,000 in the Scholarship Program since 2007, increasing geoscience literacy and capacity in a new and diverse generation of earth scientists.

Commenting on the 2023 Scholarship Program announcement, Geoscience BC President and CEO Gavin C. Dirom said: “The Geoscience BC Scholarship Program supports post-graduate geoscience students working across British Columbia, and for 2023 sponsorship opportunities are also available. Sponsoring the Scholarship Program is a unique way to support much-needed geoscience talent development, while also helping to attract investment and boost competitiveness in British Columbia.”

Scholarships will be awarded to students based on the project's technical merit, the student's interest and work experience in related activities and volunteer experience. MSc students may receive the Geoscience BC scholarship only once during their program. Successful PhD students may apply for a second year of funding provided they can demonstrate that significant progress has been made on their project.

The application deadline for the 2023 scholarship program is Monday, May 8, 2023 at 4:00 pm PST.
