Geoscience BC at UBCM 2018
September 13, 2018 - Independent public geoscience data can help communities in British Columbia to attract investment and make informed decisions about minerals, energy (oil & gas; geothermal) and water resources.
At the 2018 UBCM Convention, you can see how your community can use public geoscience, and show your support for independent scientific research.
Clinic: Collaboration, Decision-Making, Investment and... Geoscience!
Thursday Sept 13, 7:30 - 8:15 am | Harmony Room.
Learn how pairing innovations in lasers, drones and 'big data' with more traditional boots-on-the-ground research is creating valuable new data.
Mayor of Hudson's Hope Gwen Johansson and Mayor of Smithers Taylor Bachrach will talk about the importance of minerals, energy and water research to their communities. Geoscience BC's Richard Truman will answer questions and demonstrate how you can access the information.
Resolution B166: Public Geoscience for Investment and Decisions
Resolution B166 recognizes a need for independent geoscience to assist local governments in making informed decisions about natural resource development. It follows similar resolutions passed by the BC Chamber of Commerce in 2018.
Endorsed by North Central Local Government Association, it recommends provincial funding for Geoscience BC to continue to provide public earth science research, as set out in Geoscience BC's Strategic Plan 2018-2022
