2021 Geoscience BC Scholarship Applications Open

Vancouver, BC – March 17, 2021 – Applications for Geoscience BC’s 2021 scholarship program are now open.

Each year, Geoscience BC awards $5,000 scholarships to up to ten post-graduate students working on British Columbia-focused minerals, energy or water geoscience research projects. The program is part of a commitment to support post-graduate research and the next generation of geoscientists.

In 2020, Geoscience BC funded 10 student projects exploring each of our three research focus areas from our 2018-2022 Strategic Plan: Minerals, Energy and Water. To see details of the 2020 Geoscience BC scholarship recipients, please visit our scholarships page.

Geoscience BC has invested $620,000 since 2007 to increase geoscience literacy and capacity in a new generation of earth scientists, awarding scholarships to Masters (MSc) and Doctorate (PhD) students.

Geoscience BC will award up to ten scholarships to students who have registered and started in a MSc or PhD program in earth science, geoscience or applied geoscience. Applicants must be working on a British Columbia-focused geoscience thesis topic with applications to the discovery and development of mineral and/or energy resources (minerals, oil and gas, geothermal, coal and water).

Scholarships will be awarded to students based on the project's technical merit, the student's interest and work experience in exploration and development related activities and volunteer experience. MSc students may receive the Geoscience BC scholarship only once during their program. Successful PhD students may apply for a second year of funding provided they can demonstrate that significant progress has been made on their project.

The application deadline for the 2021 scholarship program is April 30, 2021 at 4:00 pm PST.
