2020 Geoscience BC Minerals and Energy & Water Research Summaries Out Now

Vancouver, BC – January 18, 2021 – Papers summarizing 31 Geoscience BC minerals, energy and water research projects and scholarships in 2020 are now available in Geoscience BC’s Minerals and Energy & Water Summary of Activities 2020 volumes.

Summary of Activities 2020: Minerals (Geoscience BC Report 2021-01) contains 15 technical papers that introduce or report on progress from ongoing Geoscience BC minerals research projects. The papers contribute to meeting two strategic objectives: identifying new natural resource opportunities; and advancing science and innovative geoscience technologies. They describe minerals research from across the province, including innovative exploration sampling strategies, advanced data analysis, and smart mine reclamation approaches.

Summary of Activities 2020: Energy and Water (Geoscience BC Report 2021-02) contains 16 technical papers that contribute to meeting strategic objectives of advancing science and innovative geoscience technologies; facilitating responsible natural resource development; enabling clean energy; and understanding water. The oil and gas papers increase understanding of induced seismicity and mitigation techniques and characterize features of the maturing Montney Play. An update on research into the geothermal potential of the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt and papers on water research in the Peace Region complete the volume.
