2019 Scholarship Program Now Open: Calling Graduate Geoscience Students Working in BC

Vancouver, BC - March 4, 2019 -Geoscience BC opened its annual scholarship program today and is now seeking applications for up to ten awards of $5,000 each to support research examining our strategic focus areas of minerals, energy and water in British Columbia.

Geoscience BC has invested $520,000 since 2007 to increase geoscience literacy and capacity in a new generation of earth scientists, awarding up to ten scholarships each year to Masters (MSc) or Doctorate (PhD) students working on BC-based projects. Theses funded in 2018 covered subjects ranging from volcanic hazard assessment, to gold and copper deposit origins, to characterizing hydrocarbon deposits. In 2019, Geoscience BC will award up to ten scholarships to students who have registered and started a MSc or PhD program in earth science, geoscience or applied geoscience. Applicants must be working on a BC-focused applied geoscience thesis topic related to the discovery or management of minerals, energy and water. Scholarships will be awarded to students based on the project's technical merit, the student's interest in exploration and development and his or her academic qualifications. MSc students may receive the Geoscience BC scholarship only once during their program. Successful PhD students may apply for a second year of funding provided they can demonstrate that significant progress has been made on their project. The application deadline for the 2019 scholarship program is April 30, 2019. For more information and to view application forms, please visit the scholarships page.
