Geoscience BC Announces the Appointment of the New President and CEO

September 9, 2013 - Geoscience BC is pleased to announce the appointment of Robin Archdekin as President and CEO. The appointment will take effect on October 1, 2013.

Robin graduated from the University of British Columbia with a BSc in forestry. His career has involved work in the forestry and construction materials sectors with a focus on environmental management and sustainability. Initially with Canadian Forest Products, Robin directed the development of strategies, policy and protocols to meet sustainability and forest certification requirements for operations, and managed technical teams related to silviculture and tree improvement and genetics. More recently as Director Environment & Public Affairs, Western Canada at Lafarge, Robin was responsible for sustainability strategies for western Canada, related aspects of government relations, and the development of programs to improve stakeholder and First Nation relations. Robin has also worked as a consultant providing services related to sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environment, Health and Safety Management Systems. Robin's varied background and experience in technical management, government relations, and First Nations and community engagement provide an excellent foundation for leading the outstanding technical team at Geoscience BC and further enhancing the organization's long-term success.

Geoscience BC is an established industry-led organization that collects and disseminates geoscience information to promote investment in responsible resource exploration and development in British Columbia. Geoscience BC is funded by the Provincial Government with additional funds from industry and other organizations and partners with industry, academia, government, First Nations and communities to identify and deliver relevant applied geoscience projects. Over the last eight years, Geoscience BC has delivered programs throughout central and northwestern BC and northern Vancouver Island, which have attracted mineral exploration to these areas resulting in regional employment and new mineral discoveries. In northeastern BC, Geoscience BC collaborates with industry to develop innovative programs to identify sustainable water resources and monitor seismic activity in support of natural gas development.

In his role as President and CEO, Robin will lead Geoscience BC as it develops new and exciting programs in collaboration with many groups across the Province, all designed to attract and support responsible development of natural resources and the related generation of jobs and revenue.

As announced in April 2013, Dr. 'Lyn Anglin, the current President and CEO of Geoscience BC, will be stepping down at the end of September. 'Lyn will be providing Robin with assistance throughout the transition period.

Please join me in welcoming Robin to Geoscience BC, and once again, in thanking 'Lyn for her dedication and service to the organization over the last eight years.
