Geoscience BC Report 2014-03
Regional Stream Sediment Geochemical Data, Sample Reanalysis (INAA), Northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia
by W. Jackaman (Noble Exploration Services Ltd.)
Geoscience BC Report 2014-03 presents reanalysis results from stream sediment samples collected during a 1988 geochemical survey completed in the Alert Bay and Cape Scott map sheet areas by the British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (MEMPR). A total of 1042 moss-trapped stream sediment samples from northern Vancouver Island and 165 conventional stream samples from the adjacent mainland were collected. The samples were reanalyzed by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) to update the original 1989 release of analytical results.
Recognized as a cost-effective means of updating information collected during older government funded regional geochemical surveys, sample reanalysis has significantly improved the BC geochemical database by providing a wide range of new analytical information at improved detection levels plus greater data compatibility with analytical methods currently being employed (Jackaman and Lett, 2013).
This report is the final component of the Northern Vancouver Island Exploration Geoscience Project. The project was partially funded by the Island Coastal Economic Trust, through matching funding provided to Geoscience BC. The Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Rivercorp also provided support for the project.
