Symposium to Show How Geophysics Leads to Discoveries

A British Columbia Geophysical Society (BCGS) and Geoscience BC symposium will demonstrate the value of geophysics in identifying deposits of natural resources.

The British Columbia Geophysical Society (BCGS) Fall Symposium takes place on October 12, 2018. The day-long session will feature experts discussing the crucial role large-scale geophysics plays in the identification and definition of regional geologic systems and the location of mineral, petroleum, diamonds and geothermal resources.

"Many world-class mineral deposits are known to lie above geophysical and geochemical anomalies in the lithospheric mantle," said the Symposium organizers. "The new paradigm in mineral exploration for such large-scale deposits, driven primarily by the Australian experience, is to image the whole lithosphere looking for those geophysical and geochemical anomalies and in particular to map the fluid pathways through which mantle derived fluids pass upwards through the crust. This approach, of mapping and understanding the whole mineral system, is one that leads very effectively to discovery of significant deposits."

The British Columbia Geophysical Society (BCGS) Fall Symposium is supported by Geoscience BC. It will take place from 8 am to 5 pm on Friday, October 12th, 2018 at the BCIT Downtown Campus, 555 Seymour St, Vancouver. For more information, view the event flyer.

About Geoscience BC

Geoscience BC is an independent, non-profit organization that generates earth science information in collaboration with First Nations, local communities, governments, academia and the resource sector. Our independent earth science enables informed resource management decisions. You can view a copy of the Geoscience BC Strategic Plan 2018-2022 here. Geoscience BC gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Province of British Columbia.

About the BC Geophysical Society

The BC Geophysical Society (BCGS), founded in 1970, is a non-profit society established to promote the understanding of Geophysical Sciences and to further cheer and fellowship in the geophysical community of British Columbia.
