Geoscience BC Releases Montney Water Project Watershed Posters

Geoscience BC is pleased to announce the release of Geoscience BC Report 2011-12 "Montney Water Project: Watershed Posters."

As part of the Montney Water Project, Geoscience BC commissioned Foundry Spatial Ltd. to compile a comprehensive database on surface water sources, and to conduct analysis of this information by overlaying watersheds with other available information. Analysis of surface water resources in the Montney took a broad approach, considering several aspects of the hydrologic cycle that influence timing and movement of water through the region, including: streamflow; lakes; water balance; surficial materials, land use and vegetation; climate; future climate model; ground water and paleovalleys; and ungauged watersheds.

Results of this surface water analysis are presented in the eight posters that make up this report:
  • Overview: A Regional Approach to the Identification of Surface and Shallow Subsurface Water Resources
  • Farrell and Cache Creek Watersheds
  • Halfway River Watershed
  • Kiskatinaw River Watershed
  • Moberly River Watershed
  • Peace River Valley Watersheds
  • Pine River Watershed
  • Pouce Coupe River Watershed

To download these posters, go to: www.geosciencebc.com/s/Report2011-12.asp.

Funding for this work was provided by the Montney Water Project, a collaborative effort between Geoscience BC, industry partners and the BC government, with support from the Science and Community Environmental Knowledge (SCEK) Fund. The Montney Water Project is designed to provide a comprehensive inventory of water sources and potential for deep geological disposal sites in the Montney Gas Play area, by creating a comprehensive database of surface water, ground water and deep saline aquifers in the Montney area.
