Geoscience BC News: New GIS Specialist and GeoGRAFX Short Course featuring QUEST-West Datasets

 Geoscience BC is pleased to announce the addition of Fion Ma as GIS Specialist

Fion Ma has joined the Geoscience BC team as our GIS specialist. Fion will provide cartographic and GIS expertise to GBC's current projects, and assist in the design and development of new projects. She will also be responsible for designing and implementing creative and innovative ways to manage, display and disseminate our geoscience datasets.

Fion has a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Geography from the University of British Columbia and an Advanced Diploma in GIS from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. She has worked in the minerals industry with several junior exploration companies and brings with her a diverse range of expertise including: cartography, data integration, compilation, spatial data management, and GIS programming.


GeoGRAFX MapInfo Training Featuring Geoscience BC's QUEST-West Data

GeoGRAFX is holding a short course in Vancouver July 20-23 titled "MapInfo Professional® / Discover® and Geoscience BC Quest West Data - Using MapInfo/Discover to Select Exploration Targets." This three-day MapInfo Professional / Discover course will familiarize geologists with the tools available to analyze geochemical and geophysical data sets, as well as create geologic maps and print layout. The course consists of a series of lectures and hands-on exercises using the recently released Geoscience BC data in the QUEST-West area to build maps and visualize data.
