Geoscience BC Creates Scholarships for University Students Working in British Columbia
| ||Vancouver, BC - January 30, 2007 - In a move to address the skills shortage in the mineral exploration and mining industries, Geoscience BC today announced that it will be awarding up to ten scholarships annually to Masters and Doctoral students enrolled in Canadian Universities working on mineral or oil and gas exploration-related projects in British Columbia. The scholarships will be $5,000.00 each and will be payable directly to the students.|
"Geoscience BC wants to attract students to British Columbia to help address the critical shortage of qualified people in the mineral exploration and mining industries," says 'Lyn Anglin, President & CEO of Geoscience BC. "Our intent is to encourage students who are pursuing geoscience studies to work on exploration projects in BC and develop a new generation of mineral and oil and gas expertise in the province."
The scholarships will be awarded to students based on their project's technical merit, the ability for the project to attract mineral and oil and gas investment to BC, and the academic qualifications of the student. Students will be eligible to reapply for a second year of support for a Masters thesis project, and a second and third year of support for a Doctorate thesis, with evidence of appropriate progress in their studies.
