Geoscience BC Announces Appointment of New President and CEO
| ||I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. 'Lyn Anglin to the position of President and CEO of Geoscience BC, effective January 11, 2006. Geoscience BC is a new not-for profit organization, established with a $25 million grant from the BC government in 2005. Its mandate is to undertake geoscience research to attract mineral and oil and gas exploration and investment to BC.|
'Lyn brings a wealth of experience in geoscience applicable to mineral exploration. She has been a research manager with the Geological Survey of Canada for the last 10 years, most recently acting as Director of the Pacific Division in Vancouver. She has been very active in the Vancouver mineral exploration research community since moving to Vancouver in January 2002. 'Lyn sits on a number of geoscience advisory committees and society councils, including the Society of Economic Geologists, and the Geological Association of Canada, and she is presently the incoming VP for the GAC. She has also been a lead organizer for International Mines' Ministers meetings at PDAC reflecting her extensive background in the use of geoscience to attract investment in mineral exploration.
'Lyn received her Bachelors in geology from Queen's University, a Master's in geology from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and her PhD from Carleton University. All of her academic research has been focused on mineral deposits. Her work with the GSC has included managing field and office-based components of resource assessments in Nunavut, community consultations with Inuit communities in Nunavut, and managing a multi-partner geoscience research programme in Yellowknife, NWT. In addition to working for the Geological Survey of Canada, she also worked as a Science Policy Coordinator for the R&D tax credit programme at Revenue Canada in the early 1990s.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to Dr. Robert (Rob) Stevens who during a leave of absence from the British Columbia Institute of Technology enthusiastically took on the responsibilities of Interim Executive Director of Geoscience BC upon the creation of the organization. Rob successfully established Geoscience BC and created a significant number of partnered research projects within a short eight-month period. His assistance during this transition period has been invaluable and greatly appreciated. I am pleased that Rob will be staying with the organization for the foreseeable future as the Chair of our Technical Advisory Committee.
Please join me in wishing 'Lyn well in her new appointment and thanking Rob for his valuable ongoing contributions to Geoscience BC.
Chair of the Interim Board
