2-D Land Joint Inversion of Seismic, Magnetotelluric and Gravity for Pre-Stack DEPTH Migration Imaging, Nechako Basin, BC (NTS 93B, 93C, 93F, 93G)

Simultaneous Joint Inversion (JI) of the seismic and gravity will be applied to two test lines in a first phase and to all available seismic 2-D datasets as an optional second phase after a basic time processing. The JI with gravity will be used to define the shallow anomalies via Turning Ray Tomography. Pre-Stack Depth Migration will be run using the velocity model output from JI Gravity, and some interpreted layers will be traced on the output seismic.

From top to bottom, in a layer-stripping sense, seismic residual moveouts along these layers will be jointly-inverted with Gravity data to define shallow layers, and with magnetotelluric data for the deeper sections.

Geoscience BC Report 2010-16 describes the analysis and processing applied to the Nechako Basin 2-D data set.

The processing is aimed at better defining the regional structure of the Nechako basin, which is largely covered by volcanic rock of variable thickness. The processing is based on a joint inversion technique using different geophysical domain such as seismic, gravity and magnetotellurics in order to obtain a better velocity model.

This report contains a technical report describing the analysis and processing applied to the Nechako Basin 2-D data set, as well as nine Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM) datasets in sgy format (filtered PSDM stack, PSDM converted to time stack and PSDM final velocity field files for seismic lines 05, 10, and 15.

The work was performed by WesternGeco MDIC for Geoscience BC, in WesternGeco's processing centre in Milan, Italy, from July 2010 to September 2010.
