Volunteering Opportunity: Geoscience BC Oil & Gas Technical Advisory Committee

Applications are now closed

Vancouver, BC – November 23, 2020 – Geoscience BC is seeking volunteers to join our Oil & Gas Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), a group of experts that identifies, plans, develops and reviews our independent, relevant and public oil and gas related earth science research in British Columbia.

Geoscience BC’s Minerals, Oil & Gas and Geothermal TACs are an essential part of our agile and innovative organization. They generate, solicit, review and recommend proposals for Board approval and their expertise is vital to the success of our research.

We plan to welcome up to three new members to the Oil & Gas TAC, which currently has nine members. This will add to the committee’s knowledge of geoscience and oil and gas development in BC, and expand its field of expertise.

New Oil & Gas TAC members will be part of our valuable network of expert volunteers with decades of varied experience. Current members are:

  • Dan Allan: Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources and Chair, Oil & Gas Technical Advisory Committee
  • Deanna Cottrell: Shell
  • Gavin C. Dirom: Geoscience BC (non-voting)
  • Tannis Gibson: Saguaro Resources Ltd.
  • Brad Hayes: Petrel Robertson Consulting Ltd.
  • Elizabeth Johnson: BC Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources
  • Jeff Johnson: BC Oil and Gas Commission
  • Carlos Salas: Geoscience BC (non-voting)
  • Clint Tippett: Consultant
Oil & Gas TAC members are asked to attend four two-hour meetings per year, each with approximately one hour of reading and preparation. They may also be required to attend ad-hoc meetings. The standard term for TAC membership is three years.

TAC membership is approved by the Geoscience BC Board of Directors based on recommendation of the President and CEO and TAC Chair. TAC members are required to sign Geoscience BC’s Code of Conduct and Ethics, and Conflict of Interest Guidelines.

If you are interested in joining our Oil & Gas TAC, please email info@geosciencebc.com with:
  • A copy of your resumé
  • A one-page letter stating why you would like to join the Oil & Gas TAC, including the top three things you would advocate for Geoscience BC to accomplish.
You can also email info@geosciencebc.com if you have questions about joining the Oil & Gas TAC. Applications will close at 5:00 PM Pacific Time on Monday, December 14, 2020.

We would like to thank departing Oil & Gas TAC members Bruce Hancock, and Randy Hughes who recently joined Geoscience BC as Manager, Energy & Water, for volunteering their time and expertise.
